Thanks for filling out my People 2020’s Survey. I wanted to let you know that your response has been received and we’ll go over what you’ve told us.
This is a good opportunity to let you know what we’re doing this for.
I want to know what matters to you, and what you want from your politicians, because I’m here because of you. The people like you who gave me this position of power are the people who I want to have a direct line of communication with. If I don’t know what matters to you, I can’t help you. That’s not a position I want to find myself in.
But let’s be straight – it’s not enough to know what you want to see done. It’s got to be about doing it, too.
That’s why I’ve focused my next few priorities on Chinese interference, veterans’ suicide and political corruption. Because they’re issues that can’t sit in the too-hard basket forever, and there’s no way we’re going to do anything about them if we wait for the Liberals and Labor Party to make it happen.
I’ve taken up these priorities because these are matters of life, death and trust. They’re bigger than you or me. It takes all of us to move the dial and I’m hyper-focused on making sure we move it.
Some people say, “but there’s other issues to focus on”, and they’re right. But you know what? If I let myself focus on everything, I don’t achieve anything. And I am not the sort of person that’s happy to sit around, talk a big game, then get nothing done. To me, this is all about the outcome. And I’m like a dog with a bone on this.
You’ve already shown you’re willing to back me up on this. And that’s critical. We can’t win if we don’t fight together.
And you know what? There are other people, just like you, who want this. And they don’t know they have a chance to get it.
